Golden Pheasant FC face new challenges for 2020/21 season ⚽️

Trucklink supported football club, Golden Pheasant FC will be facing up to new challenges for the 2020/21 season by transferring to the Long Eaton Sunday League (LESL) subject to football being given the green light to resume, amid the coronavirus outbreak.

Golden Pheasant FC were established in 1999 and entered into the Derby Taverners Sunday League in what was then called Inter Division 4. (Division 9 overall).

GPFC quickly established themselves as a strong and competitive side by earning promotion in their first season and then going on to win the League and Divisional Cup double for two consecutive years.

Winning 5 trophies in 3 years would be enough for some... but not Golden Pheasant! after a numerous years of sustained success domestically they reached the Premier League (Division 1 overall) just 11 years after inception, experiencing 8 promotions is 11 seasons. Golden Pheasant have been an ever present in the Premier League ever since and even managed a number of title challenges, coming runners up on three occasions.

In the 2015/16 season Golden Pheasant put together an incredible cup campaign winning the Bob Ellerington Cup for the first time, in the same season finishing runners up in the league.

In the 2016/17 season GPFC retained the Bob Ellerington Cup beating a team that had gone the entire league season unbeaten and also fell agonisingly short of a place in the Derbyshire Cup Senior Final after losing in the Semi-Final despite putting in their best performance of the season.

The most recent campaign was cut short due to the coronavirus pandemic, the season was curtailed with Golden Pheasant sitting top of the league with a handful of games left to play.

On the back of the 2019/20 season GPFC decided as a club that it was time for a new challenge and after 20 years of playing in the Derby Taverners Sunday Premier League they took the decision to move to the Long Eaton Sunday League (LESL).

The Management Team of Leigh Daniels & Darren Baxter (Pictured) have their sights set on being as competitive as possible in what is sure to be a very tough league.

We aren’t there to make up the numbers, we’re there to have a go and see where we end up.  We are very excited and have started to welcome some new lads into the fold, training has started and everyone just can’t wait to get playing football again.
