The initiative, supported by TRS Training Ltd, aims to tackle the well-known driver shortage within the logistics industry across the UK.
Currently there is a shortfall of at least 60,000 LGV drivers in the UK. Combined with the potential loss of European drivers post-Brexit, its predicted the shortage could increase to almost 150,000 drivers, posing a significant threat to the UK economy.
The Warehouse to Wheels is a 12 month initiative and aims to attract young drivers and provide new opportunities by supporting them in gaining their LGV licence along with the necessary practical, technical and legal knowledge needed to succeed in the industry. No previous LGV experience is needed to sign up.
Trucklink Managing Director, Nigel Todd said: “We, like everyone else in the sector, are aware of the challenges of recruiting LGV drivers and therefore are planning for our future. This initiative not only enables us to provide a fantastic new career opportunity for young adults, but will also further our commitment to giving back to our local community.
We wish all of our apprentices on the Warehouse to Wheels programme to the best of luck! and here's to a career for life!”
