Addressing the UK HGV driver shortage with new WarehouseToWheels apprentice scheme.

Across the UK, a long-running problem has ignited into a supply chain crisis in recent months as restaurants, supermarkets, food manufacturers and many other sectors have been left facing stock shortages and logistical issues because of a lack of truck drivers.

McDonald’s milkshakes, Nando’s chicken, Haribo sweets and supermarket milk are among the items that have become scarce in Britain over the summer with a senior supermarket chain boos claiming the HGV driver shortages could 'cancel' Christmas this year if shortage isn't addressed.

To tackle the well-known driver shortage, Trucklink EU recently teamed up TRS Training Ltd to launch a new apprentice scheme. The 'WarehouseToWheels' scheme is a 12 month initiative and aims to attract young drivers and provide new opportunities by supporting them in gaining their LGV licence along with the necessary practical, technical and legal knowledge needed to succeed in the industry.

Trucklink Managing Director, Nigel Todd said:

“Now, more than ever, we are aware of the challenges of recruiting drivers and we felt we needed to do something to address the driver shortage across the UK.
This initiative not only enables us to provide a fantastic new career opportunity for young adults and further our commitment to giving back to our local community but it also enables us to play our part in rectifying the sector-threatening shortage.

If this apprenticeship scheme is for you, or anyone you know, then please send a copy of your CV to our Training Partner, TRS Training Ltd, and one of their team will contact you to discuss the next steps.
