What it means to work in Logistics - Episode Five

During National Lorry Week we’re speaking to our amazing employees about what it means to work in logistics, how they got into the industry, what the future could look like and why they believe logistics is a great career choice.

In today’s episode, meet Miriam Duffield, Sales & Key Account Executive at Trucklink EU.

How did you get into the industry and what brought you here?

I left University at 23 and was on the hunt for an interesting, fast paced role I could get stuck in to. I was drawn to Logistics and initially started out in Customer Services which I enjoyed as it presented opportunities for me to help people. Over the years I’ve grown my knowledge and skillset and was presented with the opportunity to work in Sales for Trucklink.

I enjoy my current role as it allows me to speak with a variety of people daily and help them with their business requirements.

How long have you worked in the sector?

7 years.

What does the word ‘logistics’ mean to you?

In my mind, the word ‘Logisitcs’ covers a broad spectrum of roles. It isn’t just about trucks.

Logistics to me involves a whole supply chain from picking, sortation, trunking and final mile delivery. We aid our customers by providing a range of logistical solutions from pallet network deliveries, full and part loads, warehousing & fulfilment and eCommerce solutions.

What makes the logistics industry such a great place to work?

The logistics industry is constantly changing and evolving which offers opportunities for us to diversify and grow. No day is ever the same which keeps work interesting – there are always new things to learn! There are a broad spectrum of careers on offer within logistics from Customer Service, Operations, Warehousing, Planning and Driving. There truly is something for everyone.

What can we do to encourage more young people to work in logistics?

I think Logistics needs to be spoken about more and advertised as a career option.

What does the future hold for our industry with innovation and new technology?

Safety, security and peace of mind.
