What it means to work in Logistics - Episode Four

During National Lorry Week we’re speaking to our amazing employees about what it means to work in logistics, how they got into the industry, what the future could look like and why they believe logistics is a great career choice.

In today’s episode, meet Steve Moore, HGV Driver at Trucklink EU.

How did you get into the industry and what brought you here?

I first entered into the logistics and transport industry in 1991 as part of a family run business specialising in bulk tipping throughout the UK and Europe. I with held this position for 16 years before joining the Trucklink family in 2007.

How long have you worked in the sector?

I have collectively worked in the sector for 30 years both driving and working behind the scenes in the office, most currently qualifying as a Driver trainer.

What does the word ‘logistics’ mean to you?

To me ‘logistics’ means the movement of a product. Logistics ensures that the cogs keep turning and everything moving.

What makes the logistics industry such a great place to work?

That no day is the same as the next. In logistics you are a key factor in ensuring delivery of a product which is required in order for further purposes. It also offers up great career opportunities for all ages and backgrounds.

What can we do to encourage more young people to work in logistics?

By offering more incentives for younger individuals to want to come into the industry, whether that be through subsidised training programmes or work experience courses.

What does the future hold for our industry with innovation and new technology?

Encouraging younger people to choose logistics as a career path with the opportunities to progress their potentials further. Technology would hopefully open up the world of logistics with easier access to an unlimited supply of global information and to check competitors.
